Yesterday morning I was privileged to attend the 15th Annual Inspiration Breakfast at the Office Depot Global Headquarters in Boca Raton, benefiting the YMCA of South Palm Beach County. It was a great reminder of why I am so proud to live and work here in South Florida.
Each year, all proceeds from this incredible event go to the organization’s Financial Assistance Program, enabling local children, families and senior citizens to access Y programs they would not otherwise be able to afford. Our community truly rallied around this cause, with nearly 500 sponsors and supporters in attendance. It was clear how much planning, effort and energy the hardworking Y staff put into the event.
As explained by the YMCA of South Palm Beach County, strengthening the community is their cause – by investing in our children, our health and our neighbors. The nonprofit accomplishes these important goals by focusing on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Showing true dedication, they “are paid in the smiles of excited children, proud parents, and engaged seniors.”
This year attendees were treated to a dynamic presentation from keynote speaker and Miami Dolphins legend Jason Taylor. It was clear that he is passionate about the YMCA and its mission. He follows a long line of other impressive sports icons that have spoken at the Inspiration Breakfast, including Miami Heat star Alonzo Mourning, Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly and legendary Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden.
Last year’s event raised more than $120,000 for the Y’s Financial Assistance Program, and I am certain this year was a great success in supporting that initiative as well. I was honored to be a part of such an important event benefitting such a worthy cause in our community.
