Host.net Chief Technology Officer
With cybercriminals becoming more sophisticated and cybercrime on the rise, IT security is a top concern for every business. At Host.net, we have launched a new Managed Security offering designed to help companies protect their critical IT infrastructure. Our Managed Security partners, such as Zerto and EVault, have leading cyber capabilities and offer Host.net’s clients best-in-breed, enterprise-class options. As the CTO, I have received several questions recently – and thought I’d share some of the answers below.
The Host.net team is laser focused on the new Managed Security launch and in helping customers detect, protect and prevent malicious attacks. Tell me more.
Our managed security offering initiated with managed firewalls, which are now ready for customer deployments. We are providing a managed firewall solution in our datacenter for our colocation customers or virtual server customers. The firewalls provide antivirus, Intrusion Protection System (IPS), web filtering (both for inappropriate websites and malicious websites), IP reputation and anti-botnet security, application control, detailed monthly or weekly reporting and detailed monitoring. We are also able to deploy managed firewalls at customer premises. We have additional managed security capabilities in the works to help protect our customers’ IT environments even more. Stay tuned.
Describe what types of customers your Managed Security offering is geared towards.
Our Managed Security offering is designed to help any sized customer, across any vertical market. We typically sit down with clients and discuss their current IT environment and goals, and then tailor a solution to meet their specific requirements and budget. Our customer firewall deployments within our datacenter are able to handle customers of all sizes and bandwidth needs up to 10Gbps.
What do you see as Host.net’s Managed Security sweet spot?
Network security is a fast-moving target. One of the biggest holes I see in the industry is the current antivirus software available. Zero-day viruses and other malware are very common and cannot be blocked by traditional definition-based antivirus. We are hard at work vetting several new endpoint security products that will put us on the leading edge of network security.
What are Host.net’s objectives for 2017?
Many of the services we have developed are first deployed and offered to customers in our datacenter – Zerto DRaaS, EVault managed backups, network monitoring, security, etc. Our initial goals in 2017 are to be able to offer most, if not all, of these services to customers at their office locations/on-premise.
